I have recently purchased a new 4700 JD with power shift transmission. I am concerned because I hear a clutch chatter, similar to a throwout bearing chatter, when i have a load in the bucket and going up a grade this noise seems to get even louder. I was told by the dealer to wait and see if it gets worse. I would appreciate hearing feedback from someone having a similar machine and experiencing the same noise. Is this normal or not?

Is this clutch chatter or transfer case noise? When I am moving loads up hill with my 4 wheel drive engaged I hear noises that I have been told are normal. You are probably the best judge. If your fluids are full and you hear noises that don't sound right you're better off having it looked at before you do real harm. ....

Sounds like it's under warranty and the dealer is involved. You might check the clutch petal adjustment described in an owner's manual. On most, there should be at least a half-inch free travel at the top and the return spring should pull the petal back to the top of its travel. If the adjustment is very close, there is a possibility that a heavy load or hill could flex the frame enough to change the clutch adjustment slightly. You might check for clutch free travel under the conditions where chatter is present (safety permitting of course). There was a discussion something like this some months back. I can’t remember if it was a JD clutch in question or not. ....
